| Description | Native, cool-season, ephemeral (often only lives for 4 months), slender, usually densely-hairy herb. Stems are branching, to 30 cm long and trail loosely along the ground. Lower leaves are 4-12 mm long and usually divided into 3 toothed leaflets. The upper leaves are deeply 3-lobed. Flowers are very small and greenish, occurring in un-stalked clusters at the nodes. Fruits are flattened, hairless, pale brown and covered with small nodules. Flowering is in spring. Found in pastures and woodlands on fertile soils (when moist). Native biodiversity. Of little importance to grazing animals as it is a minor component of pastures and produces little bulk. It has been recorded as being poisonous (no stock deaths have been recorded), but poisoning is unlikely as it is unpalatable and rarely utilised. Only present for short periods in the cooler months and is not present in every year; more abundant when there are wetter autumn periods. |
