Title
English: Regrading work, ca. 1911
Description
English: Many of Seattle's steep hills were regraded in the early part of the 20th century. This photo, taken around 1911, shows a steamshovel cutting into a hillside during a regrading project. The photo was probably taken on Bellevue Avenue East, on the west side of Capitol Hill in the Cascade neighborhood. The Bellevue, a large wood frame apartment building (center), has been lifted up on large beams and crib piles while the work is being done.
