Die Reichsregierung hat das folgende Gesetz beschlossen, das hiermit verkündet wird:

Die Liebe zur Natur und ihren Geschöpfen und die Freude an der Pürsch in Wald und Feld wurzelt tief im deutschen Volk. Aufgebaut auf uralter germanischer Überlieferung, hat sich so im Laufe der Jahrhunderte die edle Kunst des deutschen Waidwerks entwickelt. Für alle Zukunft sollen Wild und Jagd als wertvolle deutsche Volksgüter dem deutschen Volk erhalten bleiben, die Liebe des Deutschen zur heimatlichen Scholle vertiefen, seine Lebenskraft stärken und ihm Erholung bringen von der Arbeit des Tages.

Die Pflicht eines rechten Jägers ist es, das Wild nicht nur zu jagen, sondern auch zu hegen und zu pflegen, damit ein artenreicher, kräftiger und gesunder Wildstand entstehe und erhalten bleibe. Die Grenze der Hege muß freilich sein die Rücksicht auf die Bedürfnisse der Landeskultur, vor allem der Landwirtschaft und Forstwirtschaft.

Das Jagdrecht ist unlösbar verbunden mit dem Recht an der Scholle, auf der das Wild lebt und die das Wild nährt. Die Ausübung des Jagdrechts aber kann nur nach den anerkannten Grundsätzen der deutschen Waidgerechtigkeit zugelassen werden. Treuhänder der deutschen Jagd ist der Reichsjägermeister; er wacht darüber, daß niemand die Büchse führt, der nicht wert ist, Sachwalter anvertrauten Volksguts zu sein.

Dem deutschen Volk ein einheitliches Jagdrecht zu geben, das diesen Grundsätzen entspricht, ist die Aufgabe des neuen Reichs. Es erfüllt diese Aufgabe durch das

English translation:

The Reich Government has passed the following law, which is hereby promulgated:

The love for nature and its creatures and the joy of stalking in woods and fields are deeply rooted in the German people. Based on age-old Germanic lore, the noble art of German hunter's craft has thus developed over the centuries. For all time to come, game and hunting shall be preserved for the German people as valuable German people's goods, deepen the German's love for the native soil, strengthen his vitality, and bring him recovery from the day's work.

The duty of a proper hunter is not only to hunt the game, but also to tend and care for it, so that a species-rich, strong, and healthy game population comes into being and remains intact. The limitation of tending must, of course, be the consideration of the needs of the country's culture, especially agriculture and forestry.

The hunting right is indissolubly connected with the right to the clod on which the game lives and which nourishes the game. The exercise of the hunting right, however, can only be permitted in accordance with the recognized principles of German fair hunting. The trustee of the German hunt is the Reich Hunting Master; he oversees that no one carries the rifle who is not worthy to be administrator of entrusted people's property.

It is the task of the new Reich to give the German people a unified hunting law that conforms to these principles. It fulfills this task through the
