Title
Religious Pendant
Description
English: 19th-century French copper-alloy circular relief-decorated double-sided medal. One face features the full-length figure of the child Jesus nimbed, wearing a long round-necked robe and holding a long staff with a cross at the top. The figure is set on a background of small crosses, all within a four-arched tressure. The inscription around reads CONGREGATION DES ENFANTS DE JESUS. The other face has an angel with a child in a short dress, also on a background of small crosses. The figures stand on a flat base, underneath which is the signature of the medallist PENIN. There is no other inscription on this face. A rounded projection at the top of the medal is pierced from front to back. Diameter: 19.01mm Thickness: 1,5mm Weight: 1.9g.

Penin was Ludovic Penin, one of a famous family of medallists in Lyon, France, who was born in 1830 and died in 1868.
