Description |
English: Beaux Arts Village, a lakeside community near Bellevue, Washington, was originally established in 1908 by several Seattle members of the Society of Beaux Arts, including artist, editorial cartoonist, photographer, and architect Alfred Renfro (1877-1964). The isolated artists colony, created for members to live and work in a natural setting, included ten acres for community outdoor recreation, art studios, and craft workshops. At the time there was no electricity or phone service, and water had to be carried from Lake Washington.
This image shows Alfred Renfro posing with his wife, Beatrice (Plaskett) Renfro (1886-1983), daughter Beverly (1906-1995), daughter LaReine (1908-1995), daughter Beatrice (1910-1998), and son Alfred Jr. (1912-2008).
