[edit]DescriptionReplica Chanute Biplane Glider - Warner Robins (11340513273).jpg |
This is a replica of the biplane hang-glider designed by Octave Chanute, and test flown in 1896. While careful to patent his designs, Chanute was happy to share his knowledge with anybody who was interested and corresponded with many early aviators such as Gabriel Voisin, Louis Bleriot, Alberto Santos Dumont, Percy Pilcher and, of course, the Wright Brothers. This biplane design inspired the Wright Brothers in their early gliders, which in turn led to the worlds first successful powered aircraft, the Wright Flyer. At his death in 1910, Chanute was hailed as the 'father of aviation and the heavier-than-air flying machine'. This fine replica is on display in the Eagle Hangar. Warner Robins Museum of Aviation.
