Notes A binding probably made in Holland. Wooden boards. The smooth spine is tooled in gold; ROM 1630. 2 pairs of brass clasps shaped like shells. Federico Macchi says "The little chain (Biblioteca Angelica, Roma, Legature di pregio, p. 90, n. 37, on Bible. New Testament (in Greek), Amsterdami, apud Guiljelmum Blaeu, 1633; Biblioteca Casanatense, Roma, Legature antiche e di pregio, I, p. 483, n. 994, II, p. 258, fig. 396 on Respublica et status Regni Hungariae..., Lugduni Batavorum, Ex officina Elzeviriana, 1634, shelfmark aa.XIII.30; Idem, I, p. 484, n. 997, II, p. 259, fig. 397-398 on Cornelius Jansenius, Notarum spongia quibus Alexipharmacum civibus sylvae-ducensibus nuper propinatum aspersit Gisbertus Voetius Minist. Sylvae-duc., Lovanii, Typis ac sumptibus Iacobi Zegeri, 1641 shelfmark dd.XIII.2) seems to be derived by French contemporary binding decoration (Collegio Borromeo, Pavia, Legature rinascimentali e barocche, p. XXIX n. 49 on Themisti Cognomento Suadae orationis XIX graece et latinae coniunctum editae, Parisiis, apud Claudium Morellum, 1618)".
