Summary[edit]

Description

A retired, piston-engine, S2, parked on the Weed Airport ramp, East of I-5, overlooking Mt. Shasta.

There are many interesting details in this picture- there are filler pieces at the aft end of the engine nacelles to reduce drag (Navy S2s stowed sonarbouys there and ejected them in flight...). I see a rough texture or some other cause for the leading edge of the fin to appear darker. The two diagonal stripe on the fuselage are lined up with the straight part of the leading edge of the fin. The 'fill it' pipe for the retardant tank is located at the bottom of the rudder, at the cutout marked "hot load" (ie fill here when the engines are running). The 'fourth' landing gear leg, the little anit-wheelie wheel under the fin, is whte with a black wheel and black tire.

For my money, the "94" on the find and rudder is white paint applied when the red trim was done- its ever so slightly whiter than the areas above and below the red stripe. Note that the fin and rudder stripe are dead horizontal

You can see the ILS glideslope antenna above the '4' on the fin, and some slanted rod antennas on the fuselage, possibly on the wing.
