English: Colt Model Paterson five shot revolver, circa 1838-1840 cased revolver with spare long 'match' barrel and spare cylinder .1 revolver- five shot percussion revolver; .36 inch calibre; single action; foldaway trigger; walnut varnished grips; light engraving on cylinder and spare cylinder depicting a roll scene of a "stagecoach holdup," including figures and horses; in wooden case with spare long match barrel and cylinder; spare cylinder engaging pall with note .2 case- rectangular wooden case with hinged lid and lock at front; silver escutcheon set into lid with inscription (illegible); interior divided into seven small compartments, one with lid; completely lined with red velvet; three pieces of broken partitioning wood stored within case missing from case- ramrod; turn screw etc. markings- serial number on right hand edge of underside butt strap, partially exposed due to shrinkage of pistol grip wood- 589 maker’s marks on spare long barrel- Patent Arms M’g Co. Paterson, N.J. - Colt’s Pt. stamped four places inside lid of case, and once on lid of compartment for caps- Re Boddy serial number inside rear of spare cylinder face and at rear end of long barrel- 589 cylinders engraved- COLT note with spare cylinder engaging pall- spare cylinder engaging - (pall), could be spare - original and could have - been made up later. - The original has a small - crack. manufacturer Colts Patent Arms Mfg Co., USA, c1838-40.
