Description
Nederlands: De beloningsbrief voor de familie van Balthasar Gerards. Na de executie van Balthasar Gerards verkreeg zijn familie de beloning voor de moord op Willem van Oranje. Filips II verhief hen tot de adelstand in 1589. De geldprijs van 25.000 kronen was moeilijker te regelen. De Spaanse kroon besloot met deze verlei- of patentbrief de familieleden tevreden te stellen met Lièvremont, Hostal en Dommartin, drie heerlijkheden in Franche-Comté, die eerder het bezit van Willem van Oranje waren geweest. De patentbrief opent met de afbeelding van het pas ontworpen wapenschild van de nu adellijke Gerards: een zilverrode leeuw op een achtergrond van zilver en rood. De leeuw draagt in zijn rechterhand een bliksemschicht. Akte opgemaakt door Alonso de Laloo, de secretaris van Filips II en ondertekend door koning Filips II zelf.
