Title
Rim fragment of a large terracotta vessel; Like so much of black-glaze pottery, this piece imitates a metal prototype. Metal vessels with handles modeled in the form of sleeping youths were sometimes used as cinerary urns. See, for example, the bronze handle 28.57.13 in this case.
