Title
Roman Coin Hoard CW 1 Coins
Description
English: 31 denarii scattered across 30 metres square.

The 33 silver coins are Roman denarii of 1st to 2nd century AD date. The earliest coin is a denarius of Nero dated AD 67-8 and the latest coins are dated to the reign of Antoninus Pius, one dated AD 148-9 and two with the broader date range of c. AD 145-161, suggesting a deposition date during the reign of Antoninus Pius.

[1] Not in BM without drapery (Cf Oxford 4196).

[2] Possibly plated ancient forgery.

[3] BM example has rudder on globe.

[4] Appears to be a plated ancient forgery in good style.
