Title
Roman Zoomorphic Brooch (front and side)
Description
English: A zoomorphic Roman brooch dating to AD 100-200. The brooch is shaped in the form of a duck. The back of the duck (front of the brooch) is sub oval in shape (narrowing to the tail). The back of the duck has three raised lines starting from the neck and fanning out towards the tail to create two wings and two centre sections. The sections on the back may be cloisonne or champleve as there is evidence of traces of blue and white enamel. The tail is pointed. The neck and head with a curved beak rise from the top of the brooch. On the back of the brooch, parts of the catchplate and the loop for the pin remain. The pin is missing.
