Title
Roman Zoomorphic Brooch ILLUSTRATION by J. Gibbons
Description
English: A Roman zoomorphic brooch moulded in the form of a fly with fine engraved detail on the wings. On the reverse there are a catchplate with the flap missing, an elongated hollow under the fly's body, and the remains of the spring housing. It measures 30.5 x 23mm with a thickness of 6.5mm.(excluding the fittings on the reverse). A large majority of such brooches are enamelled and belong to the 2nd century. This example is probably of similar date.
