Title |
Roman Zoomorphic Plate Brooch |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy.
Zoomorphic Plate Brooch shaped like a bird. A flat surface with tail, body and wing of a bird modelled – the head is lost; all these elements are subdivided into further cells by relief moulding. Though the cells were perhaps intended to retain enamel, there is scant discernible trace of this remaining. On the reverse, a delicate pair of lugs retained a pin bar (now lost) behind the tail of the bird, and the stub of a light catch-plate survives behind its lower chest. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-200. Length: 27.36mm, Width: 13.45mm, Thickness: 1.15mm, Weight: 1.95gms |
