Roman bow brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy brooch, related to Aesica variant types. Missing spring, pin, one arm: Bent and squashed, corroded. Spring held by rear hook. Arm has bead moulding and grooves at terminal. Bow has a plain oval upper part (perhaps missing an appliqué?) and a fantail lower half with pairs of rib mouldings. The fantail is very similar to Hattatt's Crescent type Aesica brooches (e.g. Hattatt no 288) and the rear hook is also commonly found on this type. Length 39mm, surviving width 20mm
