Roman copper alloy zoomorphic hare brooch
Description
English: Roman copper alloy zoomorphic plate brooch fragment, 21mm long, 14mm wide and 2mm thick. The brooch is in fair condition and weighs 1.03grams. The brooch consists of the front section of a hare brooch. It has a right facing head with a circular recessed eye. Its body contains one enamel cell, now empty and a long thin front leg stretched forward as though running. The brooch is very similar to eg 1189 Fig 221 in Hattatt, R. 'a visual catalogue of ancient brooches'.
