Title
Roman copper alloy zoomorphic plate brooch
Description
English: A Roman, copper alloy horse and rider brooch, measuring 23.53mm in length, 16.22mm in width, and 5.39mm in depth. The brooch weighs 1.76 grams, and is missing a large portion of the rider, as well as much of the head, legs and tail of the horse.

The brooch depicts the profile of a horse and rider facing to the right. What remains of the rider's lower body contains two of the brooches four cells; one linear cell running diagonally down the rider's body, over a second small circular cell.

The horse is marginally more complete than its rider. The partial remains of the front leg of the horse is positioned forward in such a manner as to suggest it were galloping forward. The two remaining cells of the brooch are positioned on the horse's body; a linear cell running horizontally along the length of the horse and ending in a hook on its hind leg, and a slightly elongated oval cell on the horse's chest.

The reverse of the brooch displays the remnants of the pinning mechanism, including a portion of the lug and an intact catchplate. The pin itself however, is missing.
