Title
Roman enammelled zoomorphic frog brooch
Description
English: An incomplete enamelled zoomorphic brooch. The brooch is in the form of a frog. The body is elongated and forms the bow of the brooch. The head terminates in a pointed snout and there is an eye set at either side. One eye is original and appears to be a black glass bead, the other is a replacement added by the finder (right and left respectively when viewed from the front with the head at the top). At the sides of the bow, below the head, are two angled limbs. Both are incomplete. The bow/body tapers to a rounded rump. There are two more limbs, again set at the sides. These are wide at the hip/attachment end and are angled and tapering beyond. Both are incomplete. The bow/body is rectangular cross section and slightly arched. It is decorated with two rectangular panels of red enamel, each with a central line of blue dots. The dots appear to be formed by cutting segments from a rod of blue glass. Behind the head are two lugs to which the hinged pin is attached by an iron axis bar. There is a stub of pin remaining. Behind the opposite end is a wide, incomplete catchplate.
