Title
Roman steelyard weight
Description
English: An incomplete cast lead steelyard weight with iron attachments, probably dating to the Roman period, between AD 43 – 410 (length: 34.5mm; diameter: 26mm; weight: 69.8g).

The weight is bi-conical in shape with a circular section. At the top of the artefact where the bi-conical tip is unevenly rounded, there is an iron loop protruding outwards (length of loop: 8mm; width of loop: 11.5mm; thickness of loop: 3mm). At the opposing base end of the bi-conical weight, there is another corroded iron protrusion (the iron appears to continue through the centre of the weight), which may be the remains of a hook, from which the item being weighed would have hung. Overall, the artefact is in a worn and poor condition.
