Roman zoomorphic brooch
Description
English: Roman copper alloy zoomorphic brooch fragment, 14.53 mm long, 8.04 mm wide, and 5.33 mm thick. The object is in a fair condition and weighs 0.67 grms. The object represents the back-end of a dog. It consists of a back leg extended as though running to the right and above this a curved, upwards pointing, short tail. part of the body is present and it is filled with one large enamel cell with a rounded comma like terminal to fill he dogs thicgh.

On the flat reverse side, the semi circular lug is present behind the thigh and retains part of a coiled iron pin.

The fragment is very similar to eg.610, fig.221 page 362 in Hattatt, R. ' A visual catalogue..'
