Roman zoomorphic plate brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy zoomorphic plate brooch in the form of a sitting bird. The body of the bird is hollow and has a hinged mechanism. An incomplete copper-alloy pin is hinged between two lugs by a copper-alloy axis bar. The bird has a arched neck and a heart-shaped tail. The head is undecorated. The body of the brooch has a thin line of ropework decoration with a groove either side that runs horizontally from the neck to tail. Around the edge of the body is a grooved rim. The complete catchplate is below the neck of the bird (length is 6.3mm, width is 9.6mm). The overall length of the brooch is 41.0mm, the width is 15.5mm and the weight is 11.57g.
