Printed on verso: Here is a home of Portland, Oregon, with its wonderful Rose Garden.  By reason of peculiar soil and climate the rose flourishes in this section of the Northwest in a most remarkable manner; M. Rieder, Publ., Los Angeles, Cal. No. 5136 
Handwritten on verso: What do you think of our Roses? By the first of June our gardens will one mass of roses - In the picture the pink ones that show up so prominently are the "Caroline Testout." It is a new hardy garden rose and is the official one during the festival - although other varieties are much in evidence...

The Portland Rose Festival began officially in 1907 and it is celebrated in June.
