Provavelmente construído nos séculos II ou III depois do nascimento de Cristo, o balneário, inicialmente simples, foi sendo expandido com novas divisões, atingindo o seu auge no Século IV. As salgas, de data de construção desconhecida, laboraram até aos séculos IV ou V. Os vestígios foram descobertos em 1878 por Estácio da Veiga, que empreendeu a sua escavação. No início do século XX, os vestígios foram cobertos, permanecendo assim até serem de novo abertos em 1987, devido à construção de um complexo turístico no local. Nas ruínas, foram encontrados vários vestígios, incluindo fragmentos de uma estátua de mármore, uma colher litúrgica de prata e uma moeda de ouro do final do Século IV.
