Description

Ο Άγιος Γεώργιος έφιππος δρακοντοκτόνος τέλη 15ου αιώνα, 65,5x82,5εκ. άγνωστος ζωγράφος του Χάνδακα

Στην εικόνα αυτή παριστάνεται ο άγιος Γεώργιος με στρατιωτική εξάρτυση και έφιππος, τη στιγμή που σκοτώνει τον φτερωτό δράκοντα με το δόρυ του. Από το τεταρτοκύκλιο του ουρανού προβάλλει το χέρι του Θεού που τον ευλογεί. Πρόκειται για το πιο δημοφιλές θαύμα του αγίου, το οποίο στο βίο του συσχετίζεται με την απελευθέρωση της πόλης της Λασίας από τον δράκοντα και τη διάσωση της μικρής πριγκίπισσας.
