Title
SEAL
Description
English:
Late post-medieval or early modern lead goods seal dating from the 18th/early 19th century.
Obv: no inscription / arms of Hamburg (Germany)
Rev: Gutt Hamburg Dratt (in three lines)
Ralf Wiechmann from Hamburg's History Museum identified this objects as a 'Bleiplombe' (Engl. seal) which identified trade goods of good quality. In this case, the 'goods' were a certain length of wire (Germ. Draht). The obverse of the seal shows the arms of Hamburg - the Hammaburg castle while the reverse identifies the goods and the place of origin. Wiechmann adds that these seals often identied textiles or half-finished metal products in the 18th and 19th century.
Another of these seals was recorded under <a href="https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/48234" title="View details for YORYMB246">YORYMB246</a>.
