English: U.S. Marines with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conduct boat assault force operations during a visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) course at Fort Eustis in Newport News, Virginia (USA), 11 Jannuary 2023. Marines with the Maritime Special Purpose Force (MSPF) and Battalion Landing Team 1/6 conducted boat assault force operations to further advance their qualifications to conduct VBSS operations during the upcoming deployment with the 26th MEU. The VBSS course was designed to train the MSPF and supporting enablers across the Marine Air Ground Task Force to conduct maritime interception operations in preparation for the Amphibious Ready Group/Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) deployment. Note that the ship used is the breakbulk cargo ship SS Cape Ann (AK-5009) which was transferred to the James River Reserve Fleet in 2001. |
