Sadhu with vessel, India, ca. 1920
Tinted lantern slide showing a sadhu, or Hindu wandering ascetic holy man. He squats on the ground and carries a long bag or vessel (such as a water bottle) and a blanket. He has long, matted hair and wears beads and a scarf around his neck. This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
