| Description | Aleppo : The legendary Hotel Baron [Le Baron] is the oldest hotel in Syria and the region and located in the Aziziyeh area, Baron street, next to the National Museum of Aleppo. Here, T.E. Lawrence ( Lawrence of Arabia ) resided. As did Agatha Christie, the aviator Charles Lindbergh, Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and King Feisal of Iraq. . . . . . and so did John and myself. Behind the wooden louvred shutters keeping out the heat, the interior was rather gloomy, mysterious, and hushed. Stone flagged floors, bulky but ornate balustrades, tired decor, and the once plush furnishings seem to have changed little since those far off days ! |
