Title
saxon hammered
Description
English: An early medieval silver penny of AEthelwulf of Wessex(839-58); moneyer: Manning; mint:Rochester, c. 846-9; Naismith R30.3/North 603 (obverse) / Naismith R30.2/North 613 (reverse).

This coin appears to to mule the obverse type of the previously unique coin listed by Naismith under R30.3 with the reverse of the portrait type R30.2. A similar combination of obverse and reverse designs is seen on a different Aethelwulf coin from Rochester under the moneyer Dunn (Naismith R25.2/North 604) although the spelling used on both obverse and reverse match the two Manning coins.
