Title
English: Scottish Rite Cathedral, between Broadway and Harvard Ave. at Madison St., Seattle.

English: Masonic Lodge.

The University of Washington Library's description of this as "between Broadway and Harvard Ave. at Madison St." is a bit misleading. Actually, this building was about half a block north of Madison, no closer to Madison than to Spring (in fact, it's back is roughly at Spring, but Spring T-junctions into Harvard here and doesn't run behind this building). This view is from Harvard, looking roughly north by northeast, with Madison behind you. The building lasted until roughly the early 1990s; its last use was as the all-ages dance venue Club Broadway (roughly 1985-1989). Immediately to its north is the site of the Polyclinic Broadway. The Polyclinic owns the land since 1988, and tore the building down but did nothing with the property other than to fence it off.

Haven't got a precise date for the demolition, but according to en:User:SchmuckyTheCat, "The county assessor, in 1988, for tax year 1989, valued the building at $59,000. In 1990, for tax year 1991, the building was valued at $1,000. Either that indicates the foundation still had value, or the dilapidated building was still standing. In 1992 for tax year 1993, and ever since, the building value is $0." He also indicates addresses in county/city records:

  • 1111 Broadway (for Club Broadway)
  • 1115 Broadway, a county record, several city records
  • 1121 Broadway, county property assessor
  • 1120 Harvard, unknown
User:Jmabel has a friend who moved to Seattle in 1990 and says it was still standing when she got here, so it's pretty safe to say the demolition date is no earlier than 1990; said friend thinks it was more like 1993, but is unsure.
