Description
English: Seascape

A sketch showing waves breaking close to shore under a grey sky. Everett has observed the rhythmic movement and patterning of the waves with white tops whipped up by the wind. The slash of yellow across the sky heightens the dramatic impact, while the clouds are represented by simple blocks of colour. In places the grey paper has been left to enhance the effect. The sketch was produced during one of Everett's winter stays along the coast of Britain and Brittany. The sketch was one of many produced during 1911-28, when Everett often rented a studio close to the sea to enable him to record the constantly shifting state of sea and sky. The artist's monogram is bottom right.
