Nederlands: De stad Shimonoseki ligt aan een zeestraat die een belangrijke doorvoerroute vormt voor schepen die de Japanse binnenzee bevaren. Wanneer de Nederlanders op hofreis gaan schepen ze zich in bij Shimonoseki en gaan na een zeereis van ongeveer een week bij Osaka weer aan land.
English: The city of Shimonoseki lies on a strait that forms an important passage for ships navigating the Japanese inland sea. When the Dutch made their journey to the Shogun’s court, they embarked near Shimonoseki and, after a passage of about a week, they came ashore near Osaka.
