Description

I was on the way back from the station after getting back from the Eden Project and I drove past a deserted church a few miles from where I live. And it's rather cool! The church is boarded up and the churchyard is rambling and overgrown. Perfect. So I had a look around and found this one... So, this looks like a Sminthurides to me, but also a mutant splicing experiment between S. pumilis and S. violacea. Very curious. And it appears to have a 5 subdivided ant.4... As well as very nobbly antennae in general. The pattern seems like S. violacea on the side and the setae seem similar but I don't know. A weird colour form of S. parvulus? They do have a 5 segmented 4th ant. Though I've just had another look at S. parvulus on Frans' site and the setae look very much longer on these ones and in a different arrangement. But they have a similar 2 'bump' arrangement on ant2. So hopefully he'll will swing by soon and put me out of my misery.
