Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Snow blanketed Scotland from the northern tip of the Orkney Islands to the coast of Solway Firth after a strong winter storm passed over the United Kingdom in early February 2021. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the wintery scene on February 12. While snow covered nearly every part of the country, the top news-making spot was Braemar, a village perched in the Scottish Highlands in Aberdeenshire, where The Scotsman news site quoted a town resident as saying, “I’m six foot seven inches and the snow is up to my knees!” Snow depth was reported as more than 2.3 feet (70 cm) on February 10, breaking a previous (although unofficial) record of 68 cm (2.2 feet) in 2001. Temperatures in the village were reported to -23˚C (-9.4˚F) the night of Wednesday the 10th. The Met Office confirmed that Wednesday was the coldest February night on record since February 23, 1995.
