Description
English:

After the Civil War, millions of Union and Confederate veterans, their dependents and widows applied for pensions. After the General Pension Act of 1862, military rank and level of disability determined the amount of each pension. Confederate veterans' pensions were payed by the Confederate states.

Stow & Pollock, United States Agents for collecting soldiers', sailors', and marines' bounties, pensions, arrears of pay, prize money, and for the prosecution of all claims against the United States. Heirs of deceased soldiers who died in consequence of wounds of disease contracted in the service, are entitled to a pension and bounty...All soldiers who volunteered since April 19th, 1861, are entitled to U.S. bounty...All colored soldiers are entitled to bounty. They are also entitled to pension for wounds or disability, from $4 to $25 per month.
