Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Wenceslas by Jan Jiri Bendl Vysehrad Prague CZ 801.jpg |
English: Equestrian statue of St. Wenceslas, Vyšehrad, Prague, Czech Republic.
The statue was sculpted in 1678-1680 by Jan Jiří Bendl (for 200 guldens and 936 l of rye flour). It was originally placed as part of a fountain in the middle of Horse Market in the New Town of Prague (today's name of the square - Wenceslas Square - derives from this statue). It was transferred to Vyšehrad in 1879 and a new monument of St. Wenceslas by Josef Václav Myslbek (today in the front of National Museum) was made later for the square.
