Description

Het nieuwe Stadskantoor is een opvallend driehoekig gebouw van ruim 75 meter hoog met een gevel van Noors marmer. Het gebouw biedt onderdak aan stadsdeelkantoor Escamp, een grote bibliotheek, een trouwzaal, diverse gemeentelijke diensten en 49 appartementen. Het ‘2de stadhuis’ van Den Haag staat symbool voor de vernieuwing van Den Haag Zuidwest.

Den Haag Zuidwest is in de jaren 50 ontworpen door Dudok. Een echte wederopbouwwijk met veel groen, licht en ruimte. Architect Rudi Uytenhaak liet zich inspireren door het gevoel van optimisme uit deze begintijd. ‘Ik wilde een licht en sprankelend gebouw. Een gebouw dat dicht bij de roots van deze wijk blijft.’
