Description

Airmail stamp of Burundi (1st Republic); 1971; commemorative airmail stamp of the issue "Easter 1971"; issue of 6 stamps + 4 blocks à 3 stamp (Michel Block 48A+B, 49A+B ("A"=perforated, "B"=imperforate, Block 49 = airmail); Depicted is the airmail stamp BDI Michel No. 755A which is shows as central motive a detail of the painting "Resurrection of Christ" by Hans Pleydenwurff (around 1420 – 1472).; This painting was created in 1465 in the style of the late Gothic with Renaissance tendencies. (The painter is seen as initiator of the Netherlandic (early) Renaissance in Southern Germany.) and is contemporary (since 1811) located in the "Alte Pinakothek" in Munich (Germany).; Owner is the state "Bayerische Gemäldesammlungen" in Germany.; This painting was the obverse of the so-called "Hofer Altar" (right wing, inner painting) (= altarpiece from the church "St.Michaelis" in the town Hof (Bavaria), the reverse of this altarpiece show the apostle Bartholomew and Saint James the Great).; Unfortunately this stamp was postmarked with a unreadable CTO.
