Description

Stamp of Spain;1980; commemorative stamp of the issue "Stamp Day 1980" (Spanish: "Dia del sello, 1980"); As stamp motive is depicteda XIith cenury panel with a mounted Postman on a ! back-rest" in Barcelona.(Spanish: "Respaldo del Banco de los correas aq caballo de la capilla de Marcús" = "Rückenlehne an der Bank für Pferdegurte der Marcus-Kapelle in Barcelona" (= crossbar for the attachment of the horse's harness (horse girts)) from the 14th century in the style of the Romanesque for the then postillons (go-betweens) of the then horses post.; In the annals of the history is often mentioned the year 1506 as foundation year of the "Correos d'Espania", but that is not true.; The Spanish Post is much older.; From the year 1506 is originated only the oldest written document in which King Felipe I of Castile (1478-1506) convert the Royal postal monopol to an Francisco de Tassis (1459-1517) (= noblesse of Lombardy, German: Dachser von Cornello); The depicted crossbar is from the "Capilla de Marcús" in Barcelona, which was built in the Romanesque style, but which goes back probably to Roman times.; stamp postmarked
