| Description |
Deutsch: Aufgelassener Hellenbach-Steinbruch im Höllenbachtal mit anstehendem Quarzporphyr (Rhyolith). Die Stadt Heidelberg betrieb die Abbaustätte von 1919 bis 1921. Zeitweise waren über hier 100 Arbeiter beschäftigt. Das gebrochene Gestein fand sowohl für den Straßenbau als auch als Gleisschotter Verwendung. Das Steinbruchgelände gilt heute als geschütztes Biotop, die zerklüfteten Felswände als schutzwürdiges Geotop. Die rotgelbe Färbung der Felsen beruht auf Verwitterungsvorgänge des eisenhaltigen Gesteins.
Das Gelände ist aus Sicherheitsgründen öffentlich nicht zugänglich. |
