Description

This is a picture of Stenner Creek Trestle, a railway bridge in the Santa Lucia Mountains foothills near San Luis Obispo, California.

  • The bridge was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1894. It was partially assembled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then shipped to the West Coast around Cape Horn. It was erected and then bolted to granite piers.
  • The bridge crosses Stenner Creek northwest of San Luis Obispo and southeast of the California Men's Colony and Camp San Luis Obispo, in Category:San Luis Obispo County. The bridge is 935 feet long and up to 90 feet tall. It was the last step in completing a route through the Santa Lucia Mountains. Stenner Creek Road passes under the bridge.
  • The picture was taken by me on January 1, 2003.
