Sy strewe het Sterkfontein die wêreld se rykste hominieddraende grotterrein gemaak en daartoe gelei dat die grotte van hierdie omgewing in Desember 1999 tot wêrelderfenisterrein verklaar is.

(1925 – )
Leader of the team that excavated the Sterkfontein Caves from 1955 to 2005 and recovered thousands of fossils including over 600 hominid specimens.
His endeavours made Sterkfontein the world's richest hominid-bearing cave site and lead to the listing of the caves in this area as a world heritage site in December 1999.
