English: Steyr LP10 showing a half-open breech with a nylon safety line inserted. The Steyr LP10 is a PCP (Pre-Charged Pneumatic) air pistol used in ISSF 10metre shooting at World Championships and the Olympic Games.
Weights are visible on the side of the barrel to help balance the pistol to the athlete's preference. For safety purposes, a nylon cord ("Clear Barrel Indicator") is inserted into the barrel when the air pistol is removed from the firing point, demonstrating that the breech is open and the barrel is clear, and therefore cannot possibly be fired or inadvertently discharged. This is particularly important at large competitions where a range officer may be in charge of a large block of firing points and CBIs can be seen from a distance without close inspection of the breech. |
