Das größte technische und finanzielle Problem beim Bau der Berliner Heerstraße zwischen 1903 und 1911 lag in der Überbrückung der Havelniederung. Bei der ursprünglich vorgesehenen (nichtrealisierten) schnurgeraden Weiterführung der Straße, die eine Überbrückung auch der Scharfen Lanke erfordert hätte, ergaben sich folgende Varianten:
