Description
English: Newcastle, Washington, was a coal mining town. The mining company owned most of the land in the town as well as the general store where miners and their families bought groceries and other supplies. This 1883 photo by Seattle photographer Theodore Peiser shows the company store in Newcastle. Several men stand outside the store on the wooden sidewalk. To the right, a wagon pulls away with a load of goods.
