Title
Strap end
Description
English: A fragment of a late medieval strap end which now comprises of the hollow box, which is pierced by two rivets, which would have secured the end of the strap. The object is rectangular in section and plan. The object is hollow for receiving the leather strap. The open end contains two iron rivets in situ. The opposite end is closed and terminates with the break. The outer face is engraved with a Lombardic M within a linear border. The rear of the object is undecorated. It has a dark green patina. The complete item was probably of 'lyre-shaped' form. A similar example can be found in Mills, (1999), p21. A similar example which can be found on the database is SUR-202977. It can be dated to the 14th century.
