| Description | Ásmundarsafn is dedicated to the works of sculptor Sveinsson Sveinsson (1893-1982) and was formally opened in 1983. It is housed in a unique building designed by the artist himself and mostly built in the years 1942-50. Ideas form the building originates from the Mediterranean, in kúluhús Arabs and pyramids of Egypt. The building was home and studio artist. Asmund built a arched building behind the house where both were conceived as a workshop and showroom. Later designed by architect Mannfreð Vilhjálmsson extension linking temple and bow building together. Around the museum's sculpture garden and adorned with nearly thirty sculptures the artist. Ásmundur Sveinsson was one of the pioneers of sculpture in Iceland and took inspiration from Icelandic nature and literature and to the nation itself. |
