Description
English: Suffolk House in Southwark, Surrey, town house of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, 1st Viscount Lisle (c. 1484-1545). Believed to have been situated on the west side of Borough High Street, the main thoroughfare from London Bridge and the City of London to Canterbury and Dover, as taken by the pilgrims in Chaucer's Pilgrim's Progress. Original of this drawing by Anton van den Wyngaerde (1525-1571), Sutherland Collection, Bodleian Library, Oxford. A bird's-eye panorama of the whole area was also drawn by Wyngaerde, see[1]
