Swaziland/Transvaal-Portuguese East Africa Boundary Dispute
Description
Maps portraying the lands claimed by the British and Portuguese administrations between the Limpopo River, Pondweni and Krogh. The Swaziland-Portuguese East Africa section bears the note 'Surveyed April 1907. R. Pizzighelli Govt. Surveyor'. The sheet comprises 2 maps:A: 'Plan Shewing Portions of Swaziland and Portuguese Territory in Dispute'. Depicts boundary area from Pondweni, tripoint of Transvaal/Swaziland/Portuguese East Africa, 30 miles south-eastwards to Krogh on the Swaziland/Portuguese East Africa border. Portrays drainage, relief by form lines, roads and tracks, settlements and isolated buildings, place names and disputed boundary alignments. Also portrays land and mineral concession areas, originally in colour but not so on these bromide copies. Scale approximately 1:119,000. The sheet bears the reference 76/144. Plotted on to same base map as WOMAT/AFR/TRA/45/2.B: 'Plan Aantoonende N[oord].O[osten]. Grenzen der Z[uid].A[frikaansche].R[epubliek]. Tusschen Komatie Poort en Samenloop van Pafuri en Limpopo. [Translation: Plan showing the north-east border of the South African Republic between Komatie Poort and the confluence of the Pafuri and Limpopo rivers.] Depicts this 230-mile section of border to a width of approximately 15 miles. Portrays drainage, relief by form lines and hachures, railways, roads and tracks, settlements, place names and disputed boundary alignments. Scale approximately 1:1,267,200. Compiled by G.R. von Wielligh (Surveyor-General), M.C. Vos (Surveyor) and J. Abel Erasmus (Native Commissioner) from the South African Republic delegation and Captain A.A. d'Andrade, Major A.A.C. Xavier, Captain J.A.M. Serrano, and Signor E. Mazzena from the Portuguese delegation. Printed by the Staatslithographie van het Landmeter General's Kantoor. Base map dated 1894. In Dutch, with English annotations.A scale reduction line shows that both maps have been reduced to half their original scale.
